We’ve had quite the hiatus from this platform so allow me to update you on our adoption process: we are the very proud parents of our precious daughter, Ebeny Autumn Smith! Ebeny was born on 9/29/21 and joined our family on 10/3/21.
Ebeny- a shortened form of the Hebrew word “ebenezer” meaning “stone of help.” In Bible times, the Israelites would set up stone monuments (ebenezers) to remind themselves of God’s help in times of trial. These ebenezers became precious symbols of God’s faithfulness to his people. Our sweet Ebeny’s life is a precious reminder of the same- God is faithful to fulfill his promises!
Autumn– the name chosen for Ebeny by her amazing birth mom. We wanted to honor her birth mom in her name and we pray Ebeny will grow up to share the same strength, bravery, and sacrificial love that her birth mom showcased in giving us this most precious gift.
The journey to bringing Ebeny home was a roller coaster of emotions which is why we chose to refrain from updating friends through an online format in “real time.” Now that she’s home with us and we’ve had some time to “decompress,” we are ready to tell the story. Our prayer is that God would be glorified as we recount the story of his faithfulness to us, Ebeny, and her birth mom. We also hope our story will be a catalyst for friends and families to become more educated on the adoption process! We hope you are encouraged as we share the story of the last several months- waiting and praying for Ebeny’s arrival.
**As we share our story, it’s important to note that it will be just that- OUR story. As Josiah and I researched and read up on adoptions, one of the reoccurring encouragements we saw from adoptees and adoptive parents was to protect your child’s adoption story. We want to protect the details of Ebeny’s story that are for her to share if she so chooses one day. We will be sharing from our perspective and experience as adoptive parents. Thanks in advanced for your understanding!
